BodyShape Organization Kit

Your rating: None Average: 9.3 (3 votes)

Thetigerking83 suggested I host his BodyShape Organization Kit, and here it is!

Thetigerking83's post from BackAlleySims follows; his words, not mine.  I do agree that this is the most important thing he ever made!

THE BODYSHAPE ORGANIZATION KIT

Too many shapes scattered randomly throughout the clothing catalog? Can't figure out what bodysize that dress is for? Well those can now be problems of the past.

With this kit you can update your clothing to be arranged in order of approximate size from smallest to largest and each size/shape/group will get an icon to let you know what it is!

This is hands down the most important thing I have created, it was a lot of work and planning, but could completely change the way people look at bodyshapes. Because now you could have 30 bodyshapes and STILL find what you're looking for when shopping. This makes multiple bodyshapes manageable--no, downright simple.

Credit goes to Chis_Hatch for discovering how this could be done, I just organized it and did all the work.

ALSO: If anyone wants to host this off site, miros1 for example since her site already has all kinds of sims tutorials and what not, please post here and let me know. While there are ADULT shapes, the project itself is not adult in nature, and is too useful to be hidden away. The more creators adopt this the more useful it will become.

ZIP CONTAINS:
A Product ID list that is to be the standard
Creator Color Key (Tells you what color icons represent which creator)
A PDF of this Post.
A Tutorial for updating clothing files.

All current Icons are included in the "Bodyshape Icons.package"

READ INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PRODUCT ID LIST!

And I'm done!

EDIT to quote HobbesED:

That might be something worth passing along to those that are working on the batch process. They may want to consider that some items may be lacking the product key entirely. Thus far, I've only found 3 without the key out of 40.

Updated to include BobbyTheHacker's new Bootylicious shape.

Dresses for Baby Girls!

Your rating: None Average: 8.1 (17 votes)

Using Chris Hatch's wonderful modification of BlooM's mesh, baby girls can now wear dresses -- and their brothers can wear something else!

Instructions:  Although "girls only" baby clothes is not a Maxis concept, it works according to the rules for default replacements.  Place the mesh and one texture in your Downloads folder or a subfolder of that folder.  Make sure there are no other "girls-only" baby clothes meshes or textures installed!

Mesh by BlooM, modified by Chris Hatch to be girls-only. Texture resource removed by me, to prevent having to redistribute a copy of the mesh with every texture.

Florentine and Dots swatches by Born To Quilt.  PoppyDot swatch from Cia's Palette. Lili Gaufretti Lafrange "Lapin" and Chipie Barin dresses from Pout (now offline).  PoppyBorder dress inspired by Il Etait dress from Pout, swatch from The Internet Wallpaper Store.  Blue texture by me.  Fairy texture unknown.  Tapestry swatch from Strangelv's Deviant Art page.  Pink Houndstooth based on a dress by Rosetta Millington found at Pout.

Clothing Sets

Clothing sets by Miros for the Wooden Simolean.

All my adult clothing has been "elderized," which both saves having two versions of a garment and gives your elder Sims a nicer appearance by using the adult mesh.

Since the Maxis elder meshes have a bit of a pot belly, you should pair elderized tops with elderized bottoms to prevent gaps or overhangs at the waist.

The concept of elderizing clothing was created by Hairfish of Mermaid's Cove, unfortunately now closed.

Koi design shirts for the whole family!

Based on a fabric swatch from Debsews Fabrics. Toddler outfit and child shirt fit both boys and girls.  Women's and men's shirts fit Young Adult through Elder.

I have no idea where the bottoms came from; CAS just randomly picked them from all the stuff I've got in my Downloads! Screenshot shows the elder shirts originally included in this set; elders now wear "elderized" adult shirts.  I used a Maxis provided screenshot because the family simply would not pose!

The Hot Pepper is a friendly little restaurant, and the staff thought other Sims would like to wear their uniforms!

Miros-HotPepper1

Screenshot shows outdated elder version; "elderized" adult outfits can be worn by Young Adults through Elders.  Maxis meshes.  Swatch source unknown.

Uniform is catagorized as Everyday clothing, but you can:

  1. Use OFB to set them as the "working outfit" for employees.
  2. Use SimWardrobe's NPC changer to make all cooks and waiters at non-Sim-owned businesses wear them.

Warning: Delphy's Download Organizer may report the Teen Male Waiter outfit as an orphan.  This is incorrect!  The outfit works fine in both BodyShop and the game.

Women's Clothing

Your rating: None Average: 9 (2 votes)

Women's clothing by Rose/Miros for the Wooden Simolean.

These outfits are the result of a long day of creating, with running commentary.

First there was a lady's suit:

MirosAFBlazerSkirt-Pink.jpg
Skirt fabric swatch from Fashion Fabrics Club

Then Kelly just had to update with outfits with boots, which inspired these:
MirosAFSweaterDress-CableKnit.jpgMirosAFSweaterDress-Pink.jpgMirosAFMiniAndCoat-Fur1.jpg
Pink knit fabric swatch from Born to Quilt.
Cable knit from Fat Strawberry.
Fake fur swatch from Fabric.com.

Then I couldn't stand the heat, which led to these:
MirosAFPeignoir-Black.jpgMirosAFPeignoir-Red.jpg
Mesh patterns by Greg Bennett, as a resource for SimsHost webmasters!

Then while I was trying to remember where the pink houndstooth skirt swatch came from, I found an adorable pink houndstooth toddler dress that I just had to skin!

All outfits fit Young Adults through Elders.

Comfy Coffins

No votes yet

MikeD and I were discussing my coffin recolors, and he said to me, "I'd be less interested in recolors and more interested in finding the comfy coffins I used to have."

Well, apparently, the coffins are long gone, so I made a little file that changes the Comfort of the Maxis coffin to 7. Miros-Comfy-Coffin

I'm running M&G, but I suspect this will work with any EP/SP combo that includes Nightlife.

Special installation instructions: You must unzip this file and place it in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Defaults. You may have to create this folder. (Thank you, BlooM, for the information on how to hide the Custom mark.)

Should not conflict with Lord Darcy's Higher Comfort and Energy for Maxis Beds.

Plastic Surgeon -- Faces for Your Sims

No votes yet

Let me explain a little about my theory and practice of downloading Sims... I download Sims for their facial geometry, not how pretty they're dressed or made up.  That's why my downloadable Sims wear Maxis clothes, hair, and makeup.

These Sims are not complete, playable Sims. They are packaged BodyShop Sims, ready to be used to make your new Sims.

To use my Sims in your game, Create a Family, Add a Sim to your new family, set the gender appropriately, then click the import button (looks like 6 little Sims, next to the Random (dice) button).

Some EP/SP content used.  I've tried to note this, but may have overlooked things if I used the "random" button as the base for the Sim.  Please comment if something doesn't work in your game and I'll try to resolve it.

Another plump face, with knowing eyes.

All Maxis content, but not sure which EPs supplied components.

Cherie

Your rating: None Average: 7.3 (3 votes)

Cherie is my attempt to make a face suitable for Warlokk's RenGal, Frannie's Momma Lisa, and Netra's Thick Madame.  I think I've produced a plump face without severe distortions.

The male version could be used for a body builder, if you want a "babyface on steroids" effect.  As a toddler of either gender, this face has "chipmonk cheeks," so you might want the father of Cherie's babies to have a far slimmer face.

Public Works Department -- Utility Programs

No votes yet

Handy programs I've written to help you with maintenance tasks for The Sims 2.

Handy Dandy "Stylizer" Utility!

No votes yet

This program uses the XML output file from Delphy's Download Organizer and its own XSL files (attached) to create formatted reports.  Since it's a Java program, it will run on Windows, Mac or other operating system supporting JRE 1.6 or later.

  • The hair-recolors.xsl file produces a list of hair meshes and their recolors.  If all or most of the recolors have the same color bin after them, they probably need to be binned.
  • The mesh-texture-crossref.xsl file produces a list of all Body, Clothing, and Hair meshes and their recolors. Replaced by mesh-texture-crossref2.xsl, a newer, faster version.
  • The skintone-bodymeshes.xsl file produces a list of Skintones and the custom meshes they use.  If you use default replacement meshes or ski, they'll be listed too.
  • The object-mesh-texture-crossref3.xsl file produces a list of object meshes and their associated textures.  This may run slowly until I optimize it.

Rough instructions:

  1. Unzip to a folder (not in C:\Program Files if you use Vista).
  2. Copy PackageDB.xml from the Download Organizer folder to the Stylizer folder.
  3. Run the program.
    1. Choose one of the XSL files that came with Stylizer.
    2. Choose the PackageDB.xml file.
    3. Type a filename to receive the HTML output.  You can use the same filename prefix as the XSL file, but be sure to change the suffix to html!
  4. View the HTML file to learn about your downloads!

If you get bizarre error dialogs, post a picture and I'll try to figure out what happened.

For technical people: This program can be used to apply any XSLT file to any appropriate XML file.  Enjoy!

Warning!  This program operates on the PackageDB.xml file produced by Delphy's Download Organizer.  If you don't have DDO, this program won't do much for you!

SimText

Your rating: None Average: 8.5 (4 votes)

I wrote this handy little utility program because I was tired of Windows 98 taking several minutes to repaint the folder windows when I dragged multiple package files into Downloads.  In addition, I had to make folders for each site to place the package files in, leading to more time spent and introducing potential misspellings.

An artist I really liked tended to name her wallpaper files oh so creatively "white1," "blue3," etc.  I got very tired of opening the files with SimPE so I could look at the descriptions, so SimText acquired the ability to read the TXT descriptions and allow you to change the filename to the description!

My answer: SimText!

Installing SimText

To install SimText, simply unzip it and place it on your hard drive in a convenient location.  Double click its icon, and you'll see this dialog:

About SimText

Yes, I really started writing this program in 2006!  Anyhow, here's what the buttons do:

  • Set Menu Options -- Adds several options to the context menu for package files, including a best guess at where your My Documents folder is located.  If  you uninstall SimText or install a newer version of SimPE, you may have to run SimText and choose this option again.
  • Advanced Options -- Allows you to navigate to your My Documents folder before adding the options to the context menu.
  • Clear Menu Options -- Part of the uninstall process, you must run SimText from its icon and click this button before deleting the SimText executable.

Advanced Options

Advanced Options
This dialog shows you the "best guess" for the location of the Downloads folder.  If  you're running Windows Vista, The Sims 2 Double Deluxe or any of the other 3-in-1 expansion packs for The Sims 2, it will probably be wrong.  To correct this, simply click the Set Path button.
Set Path
This dialog allows you to navigate to the location of your Downloads folder.  You may also type the path in the entry field.
Any Cancel button will stop the configuration process and return you to the Desktop.
OK saves the path you have selected and adds several options to the context menu for package files.

Normal Operation of SimText

Simply right click on any package file or select several and right click one of them.  A context menu similar to this one will appear:
Context Menu
You'll notice some new options below the standard "Open," which probably opens your package file in SimPE, if  you have that program installed.
  • One Click Install -- The workhorse of SimText.  It will grab the name of the folder where the package file currently is, such as XMSims or Wooden Simolean, create a folder with that name in your Downloads folder, and move the package file into it.
  • Rename Using STR# Resource -- This powerful function of SimText displays the STR# and CTSS resources found in the package file and helps you compose a new file name from them.
  • Sims2 Disable -- Allows you to quickly disable groups of package files for testing and mod conflict resolution.

One Click Install

This option seamlessly moves all selected files into a subfolder of your Downloads folder with the same name as the folder they are currently located in.

If this folder does not exist, you will be asked if SimText should create it for you.  For this reason, you may want to install just one package file first, then install en masse.

If this option seems to do nothing, there will be an error log created in the same folder with the SimText executable.  Check that file for helpful information.

Rename Using STR# Resource

Creating the New Filename

In this particular case, the creator chose a good filename!  However, if you have a files with names like Hair01-1, SimText will greatly simplify giving them more meaningful names by showing you the ToolTip text assigned by the creator.  Just click in the upper entry field where you want the ToolTip text to appear, select the line in the lower list box, and click the Insert button.

Sims 2 Disable

This option changes the suffix of the file name from .package to .packagedisabled.  This should prevent your game from loading that piece of custom content the next time you play.  To reenable the custom content, just right click again and choose Sims2 Enable

Disabled Package Context Menu

Oops, I Didn't Mean to Do That!

All of SimText's operations can be reversed by choosing Undo from the Edit menu of any folder window.

Uninstalling SimText

You must follow these directions to uninstall SimText, or unusable menu items will be left in your context menu!

  1. Run SimText from its icon.  Choose Clear Menu Items.
  2. Delete the SimText executable and its log file from the folder you placed it in during installation.

Compatibility

Works perfectly with Win98 and WinXP.  Modified to work with Vista, but I don't have that operating system, so it's untested.  I have people testing under Win7 and will report back!

Warning: If you uninstall or update SimPE, you will need to run SimText from the prompt again.  This is because SimPE assumes that it "owns" all associations with the "package" suffix, deletes all of them, and recreates just the ones it needs.  SimPE is a lot of things, but sometimes, it just isn't a good Windows citizen!

th_Da-Ranch_mainview.jpg

I had this one sitting on ice for a very long time, so long that I forgot where I found the plans. But I had to wait for Seasons in order to make this house the way I wanted it.

Floorplan:

th_Da-Ranch_floorplan.jpg

When I created this lot I had Uni, NL, OFB, Pets & Seasons installed. Along with Celebration and FFS. I forgot to install the Holiday/Christmas Party Pack when I reinstalled.

It is beyond all doubt that you will need NL (driveway etc), OFB (windows) and Seasons (skylight and greenhouse) to install this house.

Cleaned with clean installer.

Fully furnished.

Note: One of the kitchen counters needs to be moved back into place in front of the 3 tile window or into the nook, it's one that slipped through the cracks when I replaced the original custom windows before uploading. The counter is there, just in the wrong place. If you don't move it, your sims wont be able to reach the hot chocolate, and far more importantly, the trash compactor.

High-End Residence Club

This is a high end residence club not a flop house (wait till you see the rents). For a start you will need all EPs and SPs, and to make the cook appear you will need the "Cafeteria Worker For Apartment Lots" fix from Simwardrobe (Click "Sims 2" then "Fixes" then "Apartment Life Fixes" and scroll down to the bottom of the page) or click this link Cafeteria Worker For Apartment Lots

I suggest using the 4 rear apartments for playable sims, as they connect to the garages.

Installed expansions Uni, NL, OFB, Holiday Pack and FFS. Patched with the June 16th 2006 patch.
The garage door, driveway, driveway extension, exterior walls and interior wooden floors all require Nightlife. You must have TS2, Uni, NL, OFB, Holiday Pack and FFS installed to use the main download. I also recommend the June 16th 2006 patches.

Zip-File size: 1,657,564 bytes

MikeD-8x2bed_Multi-Plex_front-1.jpg

There is now a TS2 and NL version of this lot. This version was made in a game with only TS2 and NL installed. There are some fairly minor differences, the main one being that the driveway on the extreme right had to be replaced with a driveway extension. It's a little cheaper, but not enough to avoid money cheats. Zipfile size: 1316071 bytes.

This building was originally inspired by the plans at http://www.coolhouseplans.com/details.html?pid=16048

I've tried to capture the character as best I could while modifying it from a 4 x 3 bed to and 8 x 2 bed Multi-Plex.

If you want to use the lot as 8 apartments you could get away with MyneDoors and the Antipedestrian Garage Door from dolphin26 at http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=117170

If you want to be able to put more than one sim in any one unit, then I recommend Inge Jones Security System (formerly Apartments) these days available from http://www.nectere.net/smf/. Scroll down the page and click on "Simlogical Stuff" then "Sims 2" then "The Simlogical Security and Dresscode system". I can't deep link as they use session IDs. The site was quite slow when I last checked it, so be patient.

Update: security system now available from Simlogical again!

The lot is unfurnished and only contains cheapo plumbing, lights and kitchen cabinets. Yes, I removed almost everything you see in the pictures, even the exterior lights and that silly little restaurant in the basement (do with that as you will).

Even so, it comes in at an hefty $202,673 so it may be only for more established sims, you know, the ones that have been motherloded or alternatively you could use
familyFunds [familyName] [value] to set the amount of funds, or Use
familyFunds [familyName] [+/-][value] to add/subtract from current funds.

This lot, as it stands, requires both University and Nightlife.
Filesize: 956787 bytes
Price: $195,233

No custom content.
No hacks.

Pair_of_Semi-D_Council_Houses_front.jpg

In real life this would actually be a pair of semi detached 3 bedroom council houses. Council houses are the British and Irish equivalent of projects in the US. Although the neighborhood picture (bottom right) is similar to the rowhouses in many American cities, these units are semi-detached, with 2 units in a block.

Unless you have Apartment Life, If you want to use the lot as 2 houses, then I recommend Inge Jones Security System (formerly Aparments) available from http://www.drealm.info/simlogical/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Apartments.htm

Both halves of the lot are fully furnished so the lot is priced at $195,233. Not exactly a starter lot. Naturally in real life the unfortunate tenants get to move in to an empty shell lacking everything apart from the bathroom and the kitchen sink, not even lightbulbs. Having said that, probably 90% of these houses are now in private ownership.

For those interested, this lot is actually based on the houses you can see in these photos  http://www.megalithicireland.com/Ballybrack%20Dolmen.htm

Winterized 225 Main St.

No votes yet

MikeD likes this house, so I winterized it  also!  I couldn't resist the urge to tweak it just a little, but you can easily reverse that if you don't like it.

225 Main St.

As  you can see in the original layout below, a large piece of the flooring on the second floor was missing, which allowed the snow to fall all the way through the roof into the downstairs bathroom!

Original Layout

After filling in the floor, the real problem became obvious -- there are two missing wall sections between the upstairs hall and the "storage" area under the eaves!

Floor added, wall missing!

After adding an attic floor, I couldn't resist tampering with the layout.  The front bedroom simply isn't usable with a double bed, and Sims like lots of corners anyhow!

Final Layout

The new 1x2 room beside the stairs could be used as:

  • a secret passage between the bedrooms
  • a toilet only half bath for either room
  • split to form a closet for each bedroom (single tile walk-in closet available at SIMply SIMilicious)
  • a trap for Bluebeard's wives
  • opened to the stairway as a plant shelf (no water plants only)
  • opened to the stairway and the room below to recreate the original "atrium" concept

Winterized 58 Focaccia Place (Sharpe Residence)

No votes yet

Zephyrzodiac asked to have the Sharpe house from Academie La Tour winterized.  It ain't pretty, but it shouldn't snow on the drums!

58 Focaccia Place

This house needed some tricky work.  It needed two walls parallel to the peak the whole width of the house and flooring added over the porch and the protruding section of the kitchen, as well as flooring added over the now enclosed second floor room, the end walls replaced with normal walls, and the small triangles at the very peaks replaced by "reroofing" the third floor attic.  To get the new upstairs interior walls complete, I had to move the stairs out into the yard, then use the "move_objects on" cheat to put them back where they belonged.  The last step was to match up that funky 60s wall paper!

58 Focaccia Place Interior

Again, warnings: do not remove the roofs and do not remove triangular wall sections shorter than a normal wall section.

This house is based on the Bonny Bungalow from the base game, so you might want to consider using it instead of the Bungalow.

Note: ZZ doesn't have AL, which caused to the lot to crash in her 'hood, and I accidentally left the phonehack in, so she kindly provided me with a more backward compatible version.  Thanks ZZ!

Hemali Family

A great, easy to play, brother and sister family!

The Hemalis were created using the dark gold skintone from ArtSimz, which is no longer available.  I've played this family since SimsHost closed, and the game simply chose a different skintone for them.

Playtest info:

I've played this brother/sister pair all the way to elderhood, and they are not your average Sims!

I put them on a vacant lot expecting the usual wants... toilet, refrigerator, shower, etc.

The Hemalis promptly wanted... a bookcase and an easel! I got those for them figuring the normal ones would come up... nope! In the course of their first day, they wanted (not in any particular order) a piano, a guitar, a 600 simolean game, a car, a living room chair, two 600 simolean living room chairs, a rug, 4 sculptures, a bar, a table, a recliner, a bass, a tv, a painting and a 600 simolean table. They also wanted several 1500 simolean items, which they just didn't get, but they got spun away by purchasing something else in their wants. So they've got a 3x1 lot full of stuff... and no bed, no fridge, no toilet, and their needs are getting low.

However, at this point, Sahil, the brother, had 15,000 aspiration points! I promptly bought them the Energizer machine, and built a couple free standing wall sections for the paintings, a toilet stall, a no-privacy shower and a mirror. Without the need to sleep, Sahil promptly maxed his creativity in the first couple days, and the sister, Pazia, maxed her cooking and cleaning.

Pazia, being a family Sim, starting throwing thought bubbles about babies and/or adoption. Silly me didn't wait for her to actually get a Want to adopt, and had her call the adoption agency. At this point, they had to buy a fridge and a bed and baby items and the lot started looking more like a normal habitation-without-walls. Time to pack up all the expensive stuff and get a house!

Sahil, with his 10 creativity, started spinning up "Write Great Novel" and "Sell Masterpiece" wants. Technically, he could have just quit his job and just painted masterpieces, but his LTW was Chief of Staff, so I had him stick it out to retirement. He didn't get Chief of Staff tho, so no platinum gravestone for him!

After retirement, the Hemalis became a sort of foster home for neighborhood teens in need of a more nurturing place for them to prepare for college, with the assistance of the TOLAD Placement Service. So far, they've turned around 2 failing students and sent one of them to college where he's on the Dean's List (and engaged to the older of their adopted daughters). With a little more prep, the second will follow and they'll take in another foster child or 2. There are no dumb Sim kids, just poor parents!

Since they can still adopt as elders, I'm thinking Pazia might actually get her 3 Children Married LTW!

Hope Family

Mom has moved out and left her teen daughter with Grandma.

This family has been "played" for 2 Sim hours. They had to wait for the paper to get there and the mom to move out. All other actions and reactions were initiated by the Sims themselves.

I believe a fragmentary version of the mom is in the packed lot too. Her name is Mattea Hope.  I do not recommend attempting to make her a playable character.

These Sims have been minimally modified by SimPE to get the relationships I wanted. Only the Family Ties resource and the relationship and memory sections of the SimDescription resources have been changed.

The Marin family has adult and teen siblings.

The Redley family has an adult with child and toddler siblings.

The Raine family has an elder husband and an adult wife.

Warning: the Raines' are likely to have babies with very narrow, receding chins, which change to better proportions as they grow up.
